Waitangi on East a sellout
Today’s Waitangi on East event is a sellout. Organiser Janine Sundberg said the market style event on the main street of Ashburton would see around 100 stalls set up shop.
The Ashburton Business Association run event is now in its second year, having been born off the back of a string of successful Boulevard Days – a similar day held each September.
Great weather brought out the crowds last year and the weather Gods appear to be smiling again this year, Ms Sundberg said.
The weather forecast today is for plenty of cloud cover and warm temperatures.
East Street, between Moore Street and Havelock Street, will be shut off for the event, from 10am until 3pm today.
The event is run separately from today’s Multi Cultural Bite, held on Baring Square East, but the two events work in together nicely, Ms Sundberg said.
For Waitangi on East, retailers and stallholders alike will set up on the footpath for the day, and there will be entertainment aplenty, with water walkers, community groups, some food stalls and clowns, running alongside the shops and stalls.
