A spokesperson for IAG (which operate NZI and State insurance) Canterbury Recovery said work will continue to increase in Ashburton based on seismic activity and certainty around land condition. "We are currently working in Ashburton and have to date completed several commercial repairs like Annie's Country Quilts along with residential repairs,'' said IAG's head of commucation Renee Walker. "We have close to 150 claims from the Ashburton area, primarily non-EQC like driveways and paths and are working on these and we are currently rebuilding a house in the region." Mrs Walker said IAG had started to underwrite new policies in Ashburton based on their assessments. For those homeowners waiting for work to start from their EQC claims, which are below the $100,000 cap, there is also light at the end of the tunnel. A total of 7330 EQC claims have been made from the Ashburton area, including all contents, property and land claims. According to Fletchers construction, which manages the EQC work under the $100,000 cap, repairs in Ashburton are on target to be completed by early 2013. Fletchers spokesman Barry Akers said they'd started work on nearly half of the 400 jobs that have come via EQC, so far, for Ashburton. "We've carried out work on 160 homes, which is roughly half the number of jobs in total, and this has been ongoing since 2010. Of course more jobs are coming through from the Christmas Eve aftershocks, but we're looking to have it completed early next year." In the wider Canterbury context, to date, EQC have assessed 190,000 properties, 16,000 homes are onto the second and third stages with planning or actual repair work and 7,000 have been completed.
