Top four spots still up for grabs

By Jonathan Leask  February 3, 2012

Senior cricket's Muirhead Rosebowl reaches the midway point tomorrow and already the pressure is mounting for the top four.

Three teams will miss the cut for the semi-finals but which three is far from certain after three rounds.
Allenton lead the competition with three wins from the first three rounds but have the week off, leaving the other six teams to continue the race for the semi-finals.
Sitting in second, Fairfield suffered their first setback last weekend at the hands of Allenton and will want to avoid back-to-back defeats when they host Coldstream.
Coldstream has lost their last two matches in the absence of the Print brothers, but both are back on deck this weekend.
Jono Print is fresh from a maiden century for Mid Canterbury in the Hawke Cup while older brother Richard is a strike weapon with bat and ball.
Methven got into the race for the finals with a first victory over Coldstream last week, and will be hoping to add a second over the winless Tech Stags.
The Gorman brothers delivered with the bat last week while Ash Mills proved near unplayable as he bowled six straight maidens to start the match.
The Stags on the other hand conceded more than 200 runs and were bowled out for under 100.
That demolition was carried out by the Tech Sharks, registering their first win over the Stags last week, following an opening round loss to Coldstream and the bye.
The Sharks, winners of the Pritchard Shield and Twenty20 competitions before Christmas, are the current holders of the Muirhead Rosebowl.
However, a loss away to Lauriston could see them in danger of missing the top four.
Lauriston remain the dark horse in the competition with fluctuating performances but possessing the ability to snatch a win, especially at home.
The Sharks contribute from one right down to 11 each week, with someone managing to put their hand up most weeks to get the side the win.
Lauriston has relied heavily on Bevan Richen who is in superb form, fresh off a century in his last innings, but the rest of the batting order will need to step up if they want to continue on their winning way.
