| Hunter takes an enforced break from the bike |
|
By Jonathan Leask March 12 2010 Next weekend Hunter Jenkinson will contest the Oceania Championship mountain bike events in Dunedin over four days. But this weekend he will miss the Canterbury secondary school championships and the Mount Hutt Diggler due to an enforced rest period after suffering a concussion. At the national mountain bike championships in Wellington he came 7th in the under 17 boys. He also finished tenth in the under 17 South Island Downhill Cup series, which is competed for over three races. Methven biker Cameron Bisset came second in the over 30 men section and also placed second overall in the national series raced over six races. Both Jenkinson and Bisset will contest the Oceania Champs which involves downhill, dual slalom, four cross, cross country and hill climb but the pair will compete in the downhill. The following weekend they will also compete in the New Zealand Open held in Christchurch. The Diggler, held at the Mount Hutt Bike Park on Sunday is a downhill mountain bike race that has sections for the experienced right down to the novice and also has a practice day on the Saturday. Unfortunately for Jenkinson a fall during competition means he will miss out a big weekend of racing. Pictured: Hunter Jenkinson shows the style that got him into the Oceania Championships. |
