By Jonathan Leask  March 8 2010

Hampstead has remained at the top of the Mid Canterbury open A grade tennis ladder.

In the second edition of the competition Hampstead and Methven White are undefeated.

Hampstead sits at the top of the table, with Methven White moving into second but having a game in hand.

Methven White continued its dominant season handing out a 5-1 loss to Fairton.

Rhys Cromie and Murray Amyes won their doubles clash with 6-3, 6-4. Ryan Cone and Dianna Leonard then made it two from two as they dispatched Phil Crozier and Talia Young 7-5, 6-4. Cromie made light work of Robertson in the singles breezing to a 6-1, 6-0 win. Amyes had a closer run against Crozier coming out on top 6-3, 7-5 while Leonard also picked up a deserved victory 6-2, 6-0 over Young. Glendinning claimed the only Methven scalp beating Cone 6-2, 6-1.

Hampstead pulled off a 6-0 win against Allenton, with some convincing wins and courtesy of a default.

Tony Brosnahan and partner David Hampton had a comprehensive 6-1, 6-0 win over Allenton pair Ryan Gutsell and Jayden Cromie. Erin Bishop and Sarah Hayman were handed a victory in the doubles after their opponents defaulted. In the singles Brosnahan recorded the perfect score in beating Gutsell 6-0, 6-0. David Hampton on the other hand required a super tie break to prevail over Cromie after going down in the opening set. The final score was 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2).

Erin Bishop didn’t have to lift a finger benefitting from the default in the singles as well. Hayman however had to play and had a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kurt Jemmett.
