One super effort made Josie Kydd the Eastern Districts swimmer of the year, but this Kydd is a consistent performer.
warded to the swimmer who broke, or achieved the closest percentage to, a national open or age group record.
At the New Zealand age group short course championships in Wellington back in September, Kydd swam a time of 2 minutes 17.23 seconds in the 200m butterfly, which was 1.58 per cent outside the age group record for the girls 15 years 200m butterfly New Zealand short course record. While it a single effort earned the award, Kydd produced a consistent calendar year. In July last year she was a member of the New Zealand team that competed against Australia in the Trans Tasman tri-series competition. She represent Eastern Districts at the South Island Championships last September prior to the New Zealand age group short course champs where she won a gold and two silver, as well as posting time that won her the award. It didn't stop there as Kydd returned to Wellington in March of this year for the New Zealand age group championships winning four gold, one silver and a bronze then went on to compete at the New Zealand Open championships in Auckland a month later. At the Eastern Districts championships in February Kydd won a medal in every event she entered in the 15 years and over age group, picking up seven titles and one silver to be the holder of the Tait Family Trophy. It wasn't only medals as Kydd broke four long course records and a whopping 17 short course Eastern District records, not only in her own age group but the 16 years and open women's.
