College bow out of Gillette Cup

November 3, 2011

Ashburton College 1st XI bowed out of the Gillette Cup competition losing the regional semifinal against St Bedes by 43 runs in Christchurch on Tuesday.

St Bedes chose to bat first and set about compiling 212/4 from their 50 overs as Ashburton College found it hard to pick up wickets and were let down by a number of dropped catches in the field.
Losing early wickets to be 11/3 didn’t help the Ashburton College cause before a middle order stand from Jack Meyrick (21), Matt Tait (37), Samuel Whiting (19) and Thomas Meyrick (42) returned some respectability to the run chase.
However, the task proved too great, as Ashburton were unable to chase down the total to be all out for 169.
St Bedes now meet Christs College in the Canterbury final this Sunday to determine who attends the national tournament.
