Spectators see a pacing treat

November 2

Race two on the card at yesterday's Chertsey Trotting Club's workouts provided the handful of spectators with an exhibition of first class racing.

FrancoTMA very good field, that included this year's Harness Jewels four-year-old winner, Franco Emirate, clocked a sizzling 2:58.2 over 2400m, with the Tim Butt trained US import Lisagain, running down the field at the line.
The six year old has had 61 starts in the United States and Canada, with 17 wins on the board and made a big impression during its first Ashburton appearance.
Alex Hastie's Anton Oliver had the unlucky run of the day, making the pace for most of the race, with Lively GNP, driven by Ken Barron, sitting tidily in the trail, while Lisagain sat in third.
Franco Emirate with Jim Curtin in the cart was happy to trail the field for most of the race.
The field ran in unbroken Indian file for most of the 2400m journey, but the pace cranked up in the run for the winning post, with Franco Emirate making a late bid for line honours.
He had to be content with third, behind Lisagain and Marchesa which had sat in fourth for most of the distance.
Lisagain ran the last 800m in 54.1secs and the last 400m in 26.1 secs.
