Good shape from Kieran Hunt produced figures of 5/20 from his 10 overs for the Mid Canterbury year 9 cricket team but with the bat the side fell agonisingly short against South Canterbury in Ashburton on Sunday.
Mid Canterbury dismissed the visitors for a competitive 138, with Hunt's solid effort picking up a five-wicket bag, with Jack Griffiths also chiming in with a handy 2/25. A number of Mid Canterbury's batsmen got starts but couldn't kick on, with Aaron Martizano the only one getting through to a respectable 31. Despite lacking substantial partnerships Mid Canterbury was well positioned at 132/7, but South Canterbury made the crucial breakthroughs to dismiss Mid Canterbury for 134 with three overs of the match still remaining. The year 9 side's next match is on November 27 with an away match against the Canterbury Country side.
