| Save The Children marks 50 years |
|
July 29 2009 Volunteers from the Mid Canterbury branch of Save the Children will join together to celebrate 50 years of fundraising work locally and internationally. The organisation has had a shop in Ashburton for many years, with around 80 volunteers working both in the shop and with other fundraising projects. Secretary Jeanette Prebble said it was quite a big organisation. “A lot of people don’t realise we’re there or know about the work we do to raise funds to help children locally and overseas for different projects. We’re just celebrating all those people that have helped over the years with the various projects we’ve done,” she said. They will be holding a luncheon on Friday and be entertained by two choirs and a speaker. It will be a double celebration for the group, also celebrating the launch of a book on its history by local author Rita Wright. |
