Day in the sun for croquet buffs

January 7 2010

Club president Marjorie Smith slots one through the hoop under the watchful eye of (left to right) Gene Cabout, Lois Alexander and Barbara Field.

CroquetaKG.jpgThe hot conditions yesterday made for a good day on the Allenton Croquet green for a group of eight, with the only displeasure coming from the gusty wind.

The group played a number of competition and friendly matches during the course of the afternoon with the heat made bearable by the breeze.

The sunny weather provided perfect conditions on the green with a dry, fast surface aiding the players during the two and a half hour matches, although admittedly they weren’t playing at their best, Smith said.

The Allenton green was a rarity over the Christmas period as it was officially never closed and play continued right through the holiday period.
