Rakaia’s Murray Burrowes watches the progress of his shot during the Rakaia Golf Club’s annual New Year tournament on Sunday.

The popular tournament attracted a strong field of 73, with another 30 players on the waiting list for a spot should anyone pull out.

 The tournament was won by one of a large contingent of players to make the trip down from the Windsor Golf Club, north of Christchurch, Tony Leckie, with 46 stablefords off a 36 handicap.

 Second was Pat Melville with 43 stablefords, and third was Phil Dolan with 41 stablefords.
