More than 20,000 lambs went under the hammer at the annual Rakaia Gorge on farm lamb sales last week.
A large crowd turned out and while some came simply for the occasion and to discuss the uncanny season the district had had, many were there to do the business and compete for what are renowned as some of the most exceptionally bred lambs, with trusted shifting ability. Lambs from seven stations were on offer and the market was buoyant with prices lifting slightly as the day went on. The prices were:
