William Lowe and his father Bill were lucky to put their feet up briefly over the holiday break, with no shortage of farmers wanting agricultural contractors to cut grass for silage and baling.
The pair are in business as B and W Lowe Contracting, working for Andrew Jackson, and William said it had been a busy season, with no sign of any real let-up yet. "It will start to slow down, but there is still a lot of grass around to be cut and baled. We had a couple of days off but the whole season has been stop and start. "By now, though things would normally be burning off." He said rain this month would keep the grass growing, capping off a bumper season to remember. "It has been a very busy season with all the rain we have had, it has been phenomenal growth. "All the crops we have cut so far have been heavy." He said some paddocks were yielding up to a third more than in past years. "A lot of the dryland grass crops would have one cut, but most are getting two."
