Rakaia School fence now 'a work of art'

December 9 2009

Rakaia School pupils got out their creative sides recently to inject some colour into a fence outside Rakaia Childcare and Preschool.

RakaiaCR.jpgA group of about 10 pupils designed the mural in class before spending two days working on the project, as part of a fundraiser for their school camp.

The pupils chose the theme and based it around things they could see in the community.

Owner Sue McLean and her husband also own the Dunsandel Childcare and Preschool and use Blue Goose as the label to show the two are related, which the pupils chose as the theme.

The Blue Goose is taking part in activities such as skiing, boating, swimming, horse riding and even milking a cow.

Mrs McLean said the pupils had done a great job.

“We’ve wanted to paint the fence since we opened in March but have had to wait for the weather to come right before doing it. They came up with the idea by themselves and designed it on paper before transferring it to the fence.

“They worked really hard and it looks great,” she said.

The company supplied the paint and gave the school $1000 toward the cost of the camp.
