| Pursuing her dream the right move for Jenny |

The second year student at Aoraki Polytechnic spent four weeks creating her masterpiece, modelled in the Timaru show by husband Andre. As a mature student in a classroom with teenagers, 36-year-old Jenny is quickly learning about the importance of grabbing opportunities. And that's what taking part in the weekend's awards was all about. "I thought if this could give me a leg up in the industry I'd do it. "I had to present my ideas to my tutors, they really liked my concept and offered me a scholarship."I wouldn't have been able to do it without that." Jenny entered the Wellywood section which required a New Zealand theme to be based around a movie that had been filmed in New Zealand. She opted to use The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as her movie, using the half man-half goat Mr Tumnus as her character. She created her entry with the use of ferns, a variety of hair, a house light and battery pack and dozens of lengths of ribbon. Creating the hair art was one thing, finding a model was another, but with a fair bit of cajoling, husband Andre stepped into the breach. "That was real commitment. "He's got the patience of a saint, particularly because it meant he had to bare his chest on stage." For Jenny, the win was further confirmation that she'd made the right move becoming a student in her 30s. "When we moved to the South Island three years ago I had the chance to either get a job or pursue a dream I had when I left school. "It was a now or never situation, but my husband backed me and I knew I just had to grab the opportunity." Travelling to Timaru four times a week last year and three times a week this year isn't easy with two small boys, but with the end of the two year course in sight Jenny knows pursuing her dream was the right decision.
