She answered a knock on her door yesterday to discover a stranger standing there, with a big smile and a basket filled with fruit and chocolates.

The good samaritan was worried about people who were living alone and who might need a little cheering up after Saturday morning's earthquake. To brighten their day, she bought fruit and chocolates, stocked up a basket and went calling.

"She was calling on people for a visit and a chat. It just made my day. It made me quite emotional. We all think about what we can do, we sit back and ask what we can do and we do nothing. This woman, a stranger did this for people and she did it with a big smile."
