There’s a cold wind blowing through the meat industry in New Zealand and it’s inevitable that wind will eventually be felt in the Ashburton District. Silver Fern Farms is in the process of dis-establishing more than 170 jobs at its Christchurch plants in sweeping changes that must inevitably signal change also in Ashburton. Right now we’re safe, but is there any longer anything safe in the meat industry?
