Teddies come out to play

March 9 2010

It was a case of teddies teddies everywhere and even some to eat at the Ashburton Parents' Centre yesterday, when the playgroup held its teddy bears' picnic.

TeddieKGTeddy bears of all shapes, sizes and colours came along for the day, which was held to celebrate Children's Day. The celebrations also featured teddy songs and dances, stories, a teddy hunt and a craft corner, with puppets and masks to make. Tiny teddy biscuits were also a hit.

Children from four days old to two-and-a-half came along for the celebration but it was equally about the parents, playgroup supervisor Louise McCrea said.

"The best thing about it is the mums can come along and relax while the children enjoy themselves. They're also all supporting each other which is what parents' centre is all about," she said.

Playgroup is open to anyone and Mrs McCrea encouraged people to come along.
